Visit of Pope Francis and World Meeting of Familes (August 2018)
Piece by Michelle Squire
My name is Michelle Squire and I have been given the opportunity to write about my youth group’s experience in the events of the World Meeting of Families 2018.
The first event that took place was the festival in the RDS. There were stalls, music, workshops and people from all over the world. My youth group participated in different workshops where we got to interact with people our own age but of different nationalities. The security and volunteers were very kind.
The second event we attended was the Croke Park concert. We were all very excited because we were going to see the Pope for the very first time. There were some great performances and amazing singers. When Pope Francis arrived the crowd went crazy. He had prepared a very moving speech. “Please”, “Thank You” and “I’m sorry” were the words he used to describe a family.
The last event was our trip to the Phoenix Park. The Pope drove around in a big white car while all the people greeted him. All of us tried to get pictures of him. He then held a Mass on a big hill, surrounded by many priests. It was a very beautiful service. We found it to be a fun and educational event for all age groups.
