Resources Required

Ministry of the Funeral Team Ministry represent the Church as they serve those who mourn the loss of a loved one. They should understand the Order of Christian Funerals and be compassionate and loving. As the order of Christian Funerals states, “The Church calls each member of Christ’s body- priest, deacon, layperson to participate in the ministry of consolation: to care for the dying, to pray for the dead, to comfort those who mourn.” (OCF 8)

Our goal is to ensure that grieving families are welcome, accepted and comfortable as we help them prepare for the funerals of their loved ones. We strive to bring compassion, comfort, and support and ensure that funerals are meaningful, positive, healing experiences for families. Since the funeral ministry began in 2016 the team has provided assistance for over 600 funerals.

 

DESCRIPTION – Funeral Ministry Team

 

Funeral Ministers meet for 1 hour about every 8 to 10 weeks to pray for our Ministry, to arrange upcoming rota, and review our funeral experiences, to improve the Funeral Service to our parish Community.

Two ministers are required to attend at each funeral service.

Participation required once a month ( available for 1 week-mornings of Funerals)

 

ROLE DELEGATION

DESIGNATED BY PARISH PRIEST-ADMINISTRATOR/MODERATOR

Acting in the name of the Church.

Basic knowledge of grief and bereavement.

One who can lead prayer.

Comfortable with Scripture.

Understanding of symbols and symbolic action.

Familiar with Funeral Rites  (Order of Christian Funeral).

Ability to lead in Funeral Home, Home Wake, Graveside, and Crematorium Prayers.

Training

All members of the team receive an initial training programme, ongoing training, and support.
