A Short History
The seeds were sown for a Folk Group based in The Church of the Annunciation, Rathfarnham in 1985. An invitation was sent out and a group of young people met in
Beaufort School hall. Of those original brave souls, some of the original group are still members of RFG having given 40 years of continuous service. Many others have given +30
year’s of service with many members coming, going and then coming back. Unfortunately, a few members have passed on, however all involved in RFG have made an impression and
contributed to the legacy and history of RFG, its music and Rathfarnham parish generally.
The songs and music we use are a combination of folk, sacred, contemporary Christian and
a few rock based numbers. Members of RFG have also written a number of songs reflecting on some important issues such as peace, thanks, coming out of the Covid epidemic, etc. In
our singing we endeavour to complement the message of the Mass or the special occasion.
Sometimes our music is reflective, sometimes uplifting other times joyful but always sensitive to our mission of being there for our parish. Over these 40 years the reaction from the Parish
Community has always been positive.
